Prince of Wales Hotel Viewpoint

Perched dramatically atop a windswept bluff overlooking Upper Waterton Lake, the historic Prince of Wales Hotel is one of the most photographed buildings in Canada. Built in 1927 by the Great Northern Railway, this magnificent turreted structure is a triumph of National Park lodge architecture and a National Historic Site. Even if you don’t stay inside, the viewpoint from its grounds delivers sweeping views of the lake, the townsite, and the surrounding mountain peaks stretching south into Montana. The hotel’s grand interior — with soaring ceilings and period furnishings — transports guests back to the golden age of railway tourism. On windy days, the building itself sways gently, a remarkable reminder of the fierce Waterton winds. The Prince of Wales is an iconic landmark and one of the most romantic settings in all of Western Canada.
